| I'm a physician and I've been working for my current practice for about a year. Per my contract I can start to buy in for partnership in 1 more year. It a decent practice but I have some concerns. It's also about an hour commute for me now. I recently heard of a job opening much closer to my house. I would like to apply but the medical community in my field is small and I don't want word to get back to my current practice. Any thoughts on how I should go about this? Is there a way to do this without my current practice finding out? |
| Be careful who you use as a reference! |

It is not just the medical community that is small. Ask people to maintain confidence.

| OP here. The problem is I'm not sure how to go about applying for the job and ask for confidentiality at the same time. In order to apply I have to send my CV along with a cover letter. I don't know these people and they don't know me so how can I say, "don't tell my current employers I'm applying." I have to list my current job on my resume. |
| NP here, I was in a similar situation (so many people are) and I added, next to/above my current position on my resume, "Please do not contact current employer at this time." Or at the bottom where you might say References available upon request, say Please do not contact current employer. Additional references available upon request. |
Thanks! I was worried it would look bad to a potential employer. |
I think most potential employers understand that job searches are confidential. |
