Trying to figure out "normal" for trigger

Anonymous
Hi - has anyone been told to trigger w/follicles measuring <15mm and Estrogen <200? I did last week for my first IUI (clomid + HCG) and now am wondering why this was done, since I have always read that trigger is done at 18-20mm w/estrogen >200. if you did trigger with something similar, did it work? i'm currently in 2 week wait and getting ansy wondering if this was even worth doing!!

NO!!

Are you with an RE or is this an ob-gyn?

With Clomid, you want your follicles to be BIGGER. There's a really interesting study that shows pregnancy rates are higher when you trigger AFTER your lh surge with Clomid (but before with injectables). And the e2 being below 200 is odd too. Was it because you WERE surging? Or do you think it has to do with convenience of IUI timing?

I have no clue. Yes this is w/RE at SG. My LH was 8.3, down from my day 11 LH, which I am also questioning. I've emailed my RN and am waiting for answers, but the more I look the more it seems weird that I even triggered AND then did an IUI. Why don't they just cancel it if its not optimal!? I'm so mad today!!

That sounds strange to me too. I was told that they try to trigger when eggs are between 20 and 25. OP, I hope that your RN gets back to you and you are able to figure this out.

I'm really shocked that Shady Grove would do that. I don't know what to tell you. I think if this cycle doesn't work, you might want to get a second opinion. (And I actually got pregnant on my SG Clomid/IUI cycle! -- Hopefully you will too.)

OP here: I even asked if I would have an u/s on the IUI day just to see what the follicles looked like that day. The response I got from the RE was "everyone ovulates on HCG so there is no need to check that." I think w/SG it is a case of "too many cooks in the kitchen" - you see all different doctors who tell you one thing, then your RE goes another direction, its been nothing but confusing since I started there. (I also had three different docs there tell me different things about an ovarian cyst being in or outside of the ovary, around CD3). I'm just venting and frustrated...so thanks for listening.

OP again, it seems as though there might have been a transcription error in recording my measurements. not so happy but nothing I can do at this point except wait out the 2 weeks.
