Tangentially related - I have recently started using a french butter pot to keep butter fresh at room temp - it tastes so much better this way (vs out of the fridge).

Its also kind of fun to make - put heavy cream in a jar and shake it for 10 minutes or so. Yum.

Churn your own from buttermilk in a stand mixer or ice cream maker.

I know, sounds hard, but it require the machine to do all the work, while you hurry up and wait.

Like a PP said, you can make butter from fresh heavy cream. Any good brand will do. You can shake it in a glass jar, but I just whirl it in a food processor till the solids separate out, rinse, pat into shape and refrigerate.
