How long do you keep them?
I mean, if they start to rip, do you throw them out? Or do you keep ripped blankets, duvets? Dh keeps everything, I toss it as soon as there is a rip. |
|
If I can fix the rip, I do. But not many of my blankets or comforters rip, we haven't replaced them in years (I also tend to pay a little more for something high quality as opposed to something cheap from Target or whatever).
Also, donate instead of throw out. Someone else could use it, even if it's just for their dog . |

I've never had a blanket or duvet rip. ??
I ONCE had a sheet rip, so I ripped it up to use as rags. But I've never had a blanket or duvet rip. I've had my current blanket for 14 years and it's still going strong. |
OMG mine rip all the time. Mostly the kids blankets and comforters. |
| Why do they rip? I had what I thought was a nice one that I got at Pottery Barn. It is probably 3-4 years old, hasn't been washed a ton, and is just trashed. |
| I'd donate to the animal shelter. When our linens wear out I put them in a bag and when it's full I bring it to the animal shelter. They always need towels, sheets, blankets, etc. |
| Mine last two years on average |
| Til they fray so badly they bug me. |
| Eh, the dog will eventually chew a hole in the new one, so I'm very slow to replace (and don't spend much when I do). |
| We have a blanket that was a wedding present to my in laws. They are dead now but were married for more than 50 years by the time we got the blanket. So it's not a new blanket but still seems to function. |
I've never either! I've had some for 35 years. What are you all doing to yours?! |
| My sheets rip all the time, and I Have no idea why. |
Maybe you need to cut your toenails.

I've never gotten a tear, but I would guess the tears are coming from my some mix of: cheaper fabrics, strong/excessive detergent, excessive washing, bad washing machine/wrong cycle, wearing sharp rings while making the bed, catching it on the metal bed frame, and it sounds like dogs and kids. |
| I am wrapped in a quilt a bought about 15 years ago. I have some wool blankets more than 30 years old that are pristine. I think people often don't know how to launder fabrics correctly these days. |
