I had coffee with a friend and she told me she was having huge issues with her bus. Like it showed up for the very first time today!! Seriously. The kids have been back since the 26th and her children, and others, have been stranded at the bus stop on a daily basis. Every day it seemed she was told that it was resolved and every morning the bus was a no show.
I suggested she contact the media. She said she was considering it but didn't want to make too much of a fuss about it since it now seems to be fixed. I am considering contacting every news media outlet for her because I don't think it's acceptable and there's no way that should have ever been allowed to happen once. Anyone else having similar issues? It may be worth looking into a little deeper and gathering information on before presenting it to the local media. Especially since I'm not directly involved with it. I just fear it will be waved to the side and never properly dealt with and I'm shocked by the lack of accountability. |
| Every year. |
| It happens often, and I believe it has been on the news before. In addition to dropping kids off at the wrong stop, coming too late, coming too early, driving off and leaving kids who are running for the bus. Shall I continue? |
| Ugh! Why does this continue to be tolerated? |
Because not enought people in pg make a fuss... About anything... |
| What Schools? |
| Our bus has been at least 30 minutes late to school every single day since school started. Parents just don't complain enough or accept this as the status quo. Our route in particular is serving two schools so the bus is packed and there are many many stops. It doesn't make sense. |

My friend said she and four other parents called daily to complain and the school was involved as was the school board. It all boiled down to a driver who had no idea where he was going and it took them six days check his GPS and see he was going the wrong way and just skipping an entire stop.
I went ahead and shared her story with every single news instillation in the area. Not one seemed interested in the story. |

I think parents are complaining, but it requires follow through and being vigilant. I followed my children's bus (of course I let the driver know) and I was not thrilled with the inefficient route. When I arrived at work, I called the Trans Dept and after 20 mins, I hung up. Instead I wrote to the Trans Dept. When I did not hear back, other than an auto-generated response, I sent the email again cc'ing the Board Chair, my Board Rep and many others. I received a response saying that my bus was rerouted. I am still monitoring the situation.
In short it takes alot to keep on top of these issues. Unfortunately for some parents, they don't have the luxury of having time to follow through and to "fight the good fight". For those who do, I find that we are spreading ourselves thin. I sacrifice sleep and relaxation, etc to write letters, inform other parents about what is happening and try to stay involved as much as possible. Things will only change if we keep forging ahead and work collectively. |

We have not had any problems this year.
Some years the bus has been very late the first week. |
| 20:04 again... It seems like a lack of coordination and communication in the Trans Dept, based upon the responses I have received from that department. Parents are continuing to contact the Trans Dept asking for change so hopefully, a change will come soon. |
