covering the summer vacation for preK to K?

Anonymous
hi folks:

just wondering what other parents have done for childcare to cover the summer vacation. i am particularly interested in what folks have done for younger children. i'd like to put my dd in a few preK lotteries, but dh and i have unforgiving work schedules and i am worried about to cover summer. right now, she is in a private preK and summer would be covered. but it isn't all that great and it costs a mint.

thanks for the info in advance!

Some of the schools offer summer school. My child's charter pre-school (Bridges PCS http://bridgespcs.org/) has a summer session that runs through most of the month of July. Also there are the DC Parks & Rec "Little Explorers" summer camps. Those are $100 for a two-week session. There's more information on those in the Camp section of DCUM. If you're interested in those you'd better sign up early though as they do fill up. We're going to the one at Takoma Park with some classmates.
