High-quality linens

Anonymous
I'm looking for recommendations for high-quality linens. Right now I need bath towels, and at some point I'll need to replace our sheets. I had recommendations in the past to go with Restoration Hardware, and I'm not thrilled with our purchases there. Any recommendations are appreciated!

I like Matouk for both sheets and towels. I like Serena and Lily sheets. I also like Pine Cone Hill sheets and towels.

Another highish end brand is Sferra - but my towels came from OKL and are their lower end line. I like them though.

You can try Horchow for higher end stuff. There is also a linen store in Foxhall Square that sells higher end things.

Check out gracious home online. Their stores are in Manhattan, but they have a wonderful selection, especially for sheets.

Macy's hotel collection towels. They are even better than restoration hardware and gracious home towels (I've had all three).

I just priced a queen set of Sferra.com for $1800. I'd rather roll around in 1800 one dollar bills personally.

Check out Valerianne in Vienna- they have beautiful high end linens and the owner will really educate you on what to look for.

I think Garnet Hill has nice stuff.

Unfortunately commercially-produced linens tend to be harsh and scratchy, as well as laden with chemicals of all stripes. I find that to really end up with a quality product, you need to be in control of every stage of production.

For a few thousand dollars you can purchase a couple of acres in Tennessee on which to grow your own cotton. I produce a couple of bales a year based on traditional, organic methods and using local labor wherever possible. It is then a relatively simple matter to have it cleaned, blown, beaten, carded, spun, and woven. The whole process of bleaching, shrinking, dying, printing and finishing can take a bit longer, but you know that at the end of the day you will have exactly what you want.

Crap, someone forgot to lock the door and Gwen Paltrow wandered in. Shooo Gwen. Someone hand me a cheap polyester Big Lots lounge dress and a Big Mac and I'll fend her off. Someone else tackle her.

If my 14 week old wakes up from my snorts after reading this it was worth it.
