I was diagnosed with adult ADD and prescribed a very low dose of Adderall. Per DC law, my doc can only prescribe one month of meds. I have no problem with this. He has been treating me for a year now and asks that I come in monthly for a 30 min session and my prescription. I think a monthly visit with him is too much and was going to ask that we stretch it out to once every three months (its so expensive and there are no other issues or changes with meds or results) and I'd just come pick up the prescriptions from his office for the "off" months. Has anyone had a similar experience? How often do you see your doc? Am I the only one that thinks monthly sessions at this point are both time consuming and no necessary or is this standard? TIA
I have children on ADHD meds and I contact the pediatrician to let her know when the prescriptions are running low so she can put an order into the pharmacy. I think I brought them in once or twice when they were initially prescribed the medication. So, yes, I think it is unnecessary for you to have a monthly sessions since you have ADHD and not anxiety or depression.
According to my doc you have to have a hard copy prescription for Adderall (or Concerta) because they are monitored more closely by the DEA. (Which is stupid because it seems to me it would be easier to forge a hard copy prescription but who knows.) In any case, my insurance will pay for a ninety day supply (in Virginia--states are different apparently) but before we figured that out he would mail me a prescription so I could just see him every 90 days as usual. I would just call him a week before I ran out and he'd send me another thirty day prescription to get filled.
