Am I the Only Parent Who...

didn't cry after dropping DC off at freshman dorm? Frankly I was thrilled to see her go. She became such a PIA this summer I thought she might forego college just to spite her own face.

Was glad to see her go and look forward to not having to deal with her shit anymore.

When our first three left I cried. I was devastated. I still miss them terribly. When our fourth left last week I think I might have audibly sighed in relief. She has been a pain in the ass for months. I'm sure I'll miss her, but right now I feel more relived than anything.

You are not alone

Seems very natural.

My daughter flat out said "don't be a blubbering mess, okay?" so I didn't.

When I got dropped off, I asked my parents if they'd miss me. My dad immediately replied, "No, you've been a pain in my rear for months."

Not at all!!! I was thrilled my youngest is now gone too! Woohoo!!
I am so done.
I love them, I worry about them, miss them a bit, but was really, really ready for them to move on.

Ok, so it's not just me. Every story I've ever heard about the college drop off included tears and heart wrenching pain. I'm still in a state of euphoria. Yes more teen girls hanging out at my home with all their gossip and drama. Yes more arguing over curfews and sneaking people in the house. This must be what heaven feels like.

Yes should be no. Auto freaking correct.

My mom didn't care when I left either. It sucked because I felt pretty bad about it and other kids and parents noticed and their sympathy made it worse.

Call your kid and tell her you miss her even if you are sort of lying. I promise - it makes a difference.

I haven't cried. Only child and I am single. I'm actually feeling liberated, and DC is at a great school. So life is good!

P.S. We've been texting, DC knows I care. It's amazing what college dropoff does in terms of bringing up unsettled issues from childhood, college and otherwise.

LOL it's not just you!!!

I didn't cry when our oldest went to college either, OP. And the PITA thing before kids leave for college...typical. Many of them start the pulling-away process early, which sure makes it easy to say goodbye!

Didn't cry with either of my first 2, though I remember getting a little misty-eyed when the university president spoke to parents. I'll probably cry buckets, though, when our youngest goes next year.

And until reading this thread, you probably thought he was joking.
