Labor Day traffic

| We are driving from MA to DC. We would like to leave tomorrow, but can wait until Tues if traffic will be substantially better then. Has anyone done this drive? If we avoid the GW bridge and NJ turnpike by going through upstate NY and PA, will that help us avoid holiday traffic? |

| Likely so -- we opted for the I-84 route coming back from July 4th weekend and had no issues with traffic. |

We drove from RI to DC on Labor Day last year. We took a ferry from Block Island and it landed on the mainland at 2 pm, I think. Then we drove straight through. Stopped for dinner outside NYC off the turnpike, I think.
We had only mild traffic through Connecticut. It was very easy. We got home just shy of midnight. The kids had fallen asleep by then. |
