Moving from DC to Takoma Park (hopefully -we've just started looking)
So we'd be in zone for either TPES/PBES right? But the high school situation is confusing -- what is the situation with the DCC? I swear I'm trying to Google this situation, but it's not 100% clear to me. I'd be in the traditional zone for Blair, but I would get to pick from any of the other high schools? Are any of these decent options? The whole point of moving to MoCo would be to avoid the terrible DC schools. Thanks for any clarity you can provide!! |
| Basically you'll be part of DCC. It's a lottery system if you want to attend your non home school. Because of the magnet and IB programs, Blair and Einstein are to 2 most academically regarded schools. Northwoods advantage seems to be that it is a smaller HS overall. |

We have recently moved from DC to MCPS for the schools. We chose to live inbounds for Rock Creek Forest, in the BCC cluster. It is not that far from Takoma Park, but for us, Westland MS and BCC HS are two strong schools that we're excited about. The DCC cluster seemed to offer more options, but felt like being back in the "lottery, test in, get lucky", that we left behind in DC. Have a MSer 1 week in at Westland and very happy with our choice.
Our family is beyond elementary school, if I had younger students, not sure that I would have chosen Rock Creek Forest, might have chosen Rosemary Hills/NCC or CC. Also in BCC cluster. You'll find almost no DCUM activity on the Md board compared to DC! |
We just moved into the BCC cluster and we opted for a neighborhood that feeds to Rosemary Hills. i read some mixed reviews about Rock Creek Forest, though I am sure it is in reality a fine school. |
| Your child would go to TPES for K-2 and then PBES for 3-5. Takoma Park middle is excellent. Then Blair. |
