I really like using my Crockpot, but it always always always overcooks our food. It theoretically transfers to warm when the time on a particular setting runs out, but I think the food still cooks. I am looking for an upgrade. Anyone out there have one they highly recommend???
I switched to a fancy pressure cooker and get better results in a short cooking period.
No. I think long slow and in liquid is just never going to be good. Passable, yes. Good, no.
No. I use a dutch oven instead and I think it is much better.
I love mine. Use it a couple of times a week. It's an eight year old crockpot. I use the cookbook The Art of the Slow Cooker. It's great.

This works great. It will not burn, plus it's not on all day/ night. |
Slow cookers are excellent but are limited to certain types of foods. Mainly foods that do well with long simmer times or low and slow type meats. Things like soups, chili's, stews, pulled pork, pulled beef, etc. There bad for anything moisture sensitive or requiring a nice char.
I have a very basic one that stays on the same setting until I move the dial. I like it.
