We are moving to DC in a month and are looking to become members of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in DC. We are also hoping to send our DD to catholic school. Do parishioners have problems enrolling their kids at the Kindergarten level at the Our Lady of Victory School (in terms of space available and demand for those spots)? We have not had a chance to get down there to meet with any of the faculty but did not also know if that is an appropriate question to ask the principal or to how many other schools we should apply. Our DD is currently in a preschool program and will be entering Kindergarten for the fall 2009 school year.

Our children go to OLV, and we couldn't be happier. We first applied when our oldest was going into Kindergarten, and we were not members of the parish. I would recommend, if possible, trying to get your child in the Pre-K class for the 2008 school year - then, of course, she'll be in for Kindergarten. The school received the "blue ribbon" award this year, and I've heard this has attracted many new applicants. Class sizes are small, which is why we love the school (around 16 per class), and I doubt they're going to be bumping up the class sizes. Definitely arrange a tour asap, and I think it's completely appropriate to ask the principal - she's fabulous and very direct - she'll tell you what to expect. good luck! |
Can you tell me how competitive the preschool is for non-parishioners?

We are seriously considering OLV, as well as a couple of other Catholic schools for pre-k next year (most apps for Fall 2008 were due late Jan/early Feb).
I was wondering about a website or other resource that gives test scores and other info (like class size, demographics) on private schools. I found a site that allows you to compare public schools, but they don't have data on private schools. |
Private schools do not give out their test scores. |
The Archdiocese of Washington is going to start publishing their test scores online next year, from what we have been told. |
