Is there time for lambs ear to establish itself

Anonymous
If I transplant some lambs ear now, will it survive the winter?

It's basically a weed people like. Yes. Most likely it will survive.

Yes it is a tough plant to kill.

It should survive but if, for some reason, it doesn't, post back in the spring and I'll be glad to give you lots - free!

It can live in the frozen tundra.

To answer your actual question--it will takes a year or two to get a deeply established carpet of it. The roots are shallow and you need alkaline soil (lots of lime) and plant it in a place that gets 6+ hours of sun to get it established as quickly as possible. It is not a 'weed' in the sense that it will propagate anywhere under any conditions. Shade and high PH will kill it.

Thanks. Since I've killed it before, I'll post back in the spring if I need more. Was thinking of putting it in a shady place... I'll look for a sunnier spot.
