NW DC public school seeks volunteer librarian

Anonymous
Hi, everyone,

My name is Neela Banerjee and I am parent at West ES in NW DC. Last fall, we lost our funding for a librarian and our cozy nook of a library is lying fallow. I am reaching out to our community with the hope that perhaps a librarian who is a SAHM mom now and looking for volunteer opportunities would want to work with us. West isnt an affluent or well-known school, but after years of neglect, we are finally turning around. Having a welcoming, useful library would only help that process.

We have only 240 kids, ages 3 to 7th grade, so only one class per grade. Our school is 2/3 free lunch. We have a small but active core of parents that over the last year have launched a math club, a school-wide, yearlong TV Turn off effort and are bringing in authors for readings. We plan to introduce a foreign language next year. We hope to apply to become a magnet school this year.

Our principal is behind this effort. Our library is a blank page awaiting the imprint of a caring professional who wants to nurture our kids' curiosity. We cant pay anything (sorry!), but we hope this might be a volunteer project that appeals to you. Hours are flexible. If you are interested, please contact me at nb6503@yahoo.com.

Thanks and cheers
Neela
