Skip Old San Juan and go straight to the beach?

Anonymous
We have plans to go to Puerto Rico this fall for 5 days. We are staying at El Conquistador, which is a pool/beach/golf resort. I originally planned to break up our trip and spend some time in Old San Juan area. Thought it would be good for the kids (ages 3 and 5). DH thinks we should skip Old San Juan and go straight to the resort and stay there.

WWYD? SKip Old San Juan?

I have already been to PR a few times and been to Old San Juan. I don't really care if we go or not. I thought it would be good to expose the kids to some culture.

I was going to mention visiting the fort but then I realized the kids are 3 and 5. Go to the beach.

If you have to ask, go to the beach.

OP here. I told DH I wanted the kids to have some culture. He thinks they won't appreciate or remember anything since the kids are still young.

Beach. Hands down, especially since you've seen Old San Juan already. Kids are too young for it to make any difference.

I just came back from that resort. We rented a car and went to the rain forest and old San Juan. The beach at Conquistador is beautiful and I would only venture out if it's raining or something. My five year old enjoyed the beach 10 times more. Also, they have a water park. It is not worth 20 bucks but at 4 pm the cost goes down to 5 bucks. Definitely worth that for the hour before they close. You'll have a great time. The place is super kid friendly.

Pp again, make reservations for restaurants, especially the Chinese one.

OP here. Did you think the rain forest was worth it?

DH prefers not to rent a car. He just wants to spend the entire time at the resort.

We've been to PR several times, and with a 3 and 5 year old, I'd do beach only.

It was nice for me but my 5 year old got nothing out of it. The trail is pretty long so it's not really kid friendly. We just drove up in the car. I concur with your DH. Spend time on the beach. You will want to when you see it. The kids will enjoy that better than anything else.

Boring. Is a rain forest worth it? This is sad.

Are you saying the rain forest is boring or the resort is boring?

The one who is "boring" is not me (pp who visited both). Neither was boring.

El Conquistador is awesome and will be great with kids. San Juan isn't very nice, IMHO. I'd skip it entirely.

Go straight to the beach.
