Hardy?

Anonymous
Apparently Hardy is listed as my in-boundary school, but I'm very confused about the school. It seems to be a magnet program too? Could someone explain to me how Hardy works?

I have a niece who might be coming to live with me and she'll be entering sixth grade. She's already missed most of the private school deadlines, so it looks like public school is the only way to go.

As I recall, Hardy is set up as a magnet program in the 6th grade so you apply rather than go through the lottery (IMO, I think they did this in order to bypass the lottery and pick the students they wanted.) Back when dd was at Hardy, I heard that almost 3/4 of the students were from out of boundaries. I'm guessing that that has changed now, with Hardy having been renovated. (I hear it's beautiful.)

But I believe if you are in-boundary you are still accepted automatically -- but that is my guess, you should call the school and ask.

Dd had an overall good experience at Hardy. She's at private school now and I would say a few of her teachers at Hardy were better, most were about the same -- but then she also had 1 or 2 terrible teachers at Hardy (which wouldn't have happened at the private), but I believe they're gone. The principal, Patrick Pope, always seemed to me to be quite competent. You should definitely look into it if your niece comes to live with you.

Well, My niece is very into music and dance. Hardy seems like it would 'fit' for her.

Otherwise, we're applying for her to go to Deal.

I think she'd be more satisified at Hardy though.
