Montego Bay, Jamaica or San Juan, Puerto Rico?

Jamaica has nicer beaches and feels like more of a getaway. But Old San Juan is beautiful and you can do day trips into the forest. Most people in Jamaica are very nice but there are a lot of cruise ships that dock at Montego Bay and a lot of hagglers. Ocho Rios is a bit more relaxed IMO. |

| san juan, for sure. there is nothing to do in montego bay other than hang at the resort. in san juan you can get out and explore beaches, rainforests, old san juan, etc. we stayed in condado and took cabs to old san juan and tours of the rainforests. we have gone back to san juan but have no plans to ever return to montego bay. |

OP here, thank you. Will do San Juan this year.
We went to Dominican Republic a couple of years ago and rented a car to drive along the coast. It was very sad once we were out of the resort. |

| Jamaica and Puerto Rico both have poverty like DR. The only island I felt safe and happy driving around was Grand Cayman. |
