DOJ/federal agency drug testing

How soon after receiving a job offer are you typically asked to undergo urinalysis? If you live outside of DC, are there local labs where you can get tested?

6 months after COE.

Urine and Blood sample given at processing center in nova.

Thanks. Stupid question: what does COE stand for?

Conditional Offer of Employment.

EDIT: i didn't notice you specifically said DOJ in your title. mine was not for doj - disregard.

A month or so before I was going to start. (I was an honors attorney, so had gotten the job offer almost a year earlier.). Got a call and told to report to a lab that same day. Urine only. It was some sort of lab chain -- quest diagnostics maybe? So I assume you could go to a location near you.

I got to call and schedule mine within a certain window. That was 4 years ago, though.

Also, why are you worried so much about the drug testing? If that was going to be an issue, I wouldn't have applied to DOJ.

The good news is that unless you're DEA/FBI, it's unlikely you'll ever be tested again (though you will have to report any drug use on your background reinvestigations every 5 years).

OP here -- thanks, I appreciate the insight. I wouldn't usually be worried about this kinds of stuff as I don't partake, but I involuntarily inhaled a whole bunch of second-hand bong smoke at a party last weekend, which made me worry about my ability to pass a drug test. Maybe an overreaction on my part, but I'd hate for something like that to disqualify me.

You can pick up a test at CVS to see what your result would be.

This was my experience as well. Did the test after I'd recieved the conditional offer of employment.

This may seem kind of obvious, but if you are applying for employment at the DOJ, you may want to rethink going to parties where people are doing drugs.
