Do most independent schools tell you when your application is complete?

Just got a card from Sidwell, but we haven't heard from any other schools, and as far as I know, our child's applications have been complete for weeks. What is the usual practice? Do I need to call to ask?

I received the same post-card from Sidwell. It's a generic card with my child's name hand-written in stating the application is complete and I would hear of a decision at the end of March.

They are the only school to do this so far.
