If you are half asian is it better to ommit the asian part so that it's easier to get in?

Is there a penalty for being a certain race in terms of college and private schools admissions?

Honesty is the best policy.

I'm half asian and have always put both because it's what I am. Also, many places (school and work places) might favor a person of color if they are interested in diversity. I know that was a key factor when I got my first job out of college.

It's called integrity, OP. You don't go far in life without it.

If you are half Asian (as my kids are) you don't lie about it.

sometimes you can only choose one box. Go with what you identify with more.

For Ivy leagues, I heard it's better to omit the Asian part. Maybe it's not the same for half-Asian.

There is sometimes a penalty for being white. My kids are half Asian and half Caucasian. we claim them as Asian, period, when the form only offers one choice. In the Odumbo administration, minorities rule.

Are mixed children considered a minority category independent of their mix?

Are your children applying for jobs in the Obama administration?

Where do you see minorities ruling? Your fantasy land? I'm a minority, grew up poor, and have worked harder my entire life than any of the non-minorities I know, including the poor ones.

We have jackasses all over DC. It hasn't been limited to the WH these past 8 yrs. It goes beyond the 8 yrs. There was a bigger jackass there before him.

I have wondered about a similar question, b/c I have two Chinese-American daughters, but my DH and I are Caucasian. I have wondered, when we get to this point, if it would make a difference one way or another as to which "box" they check (say, on college applications) and, if so, which one would be "better."

It depends where you're applying. To top universities there definitely is a bias against Asians because they're already well represented. If you work in a STEM field there might already be good Asian representation.

I'm hoping race based questions will disappear by the time my kids are old enough.
