Multiple cycles of IVF - same quality embryos?

Anonymous
If you had multiple cycles of IVF, did your embryo quality vary by cycle? I'm wondering if the low quality embryos we produced this time will be a consistent outcome or if we might have more that look good and make it to Day 5 next time.

I had much better embryos the second time. I think they used better protocol with my meds the second time.

I did back to back ivf cycles and my second cycle was so much better than my first.. Used the same amount of meds so not sure why.

Every cycle is different even when you use same protocol. And every cycle IS different when you use different protocols.

My quality varied. Because of my background we used menopur only and the first time I think we went a couple days too long. I was unsure why my RE had us trigger so early the second cycle but later realized he might have suspected over stimming. Second cycle had fewer embryos but much better quality.

OP here. Thanks so much for the replies. You give me hope!

I just completed my first cycle. My doctor was pleased with my response to the relatively low dose of meds and said we should have no problem making it to day 5. Eight of the 9 eggs retrieved were fertilized using ICSI. However, by Day 3 there was only one high grade embryo and the rest were lagging, so they went ahead and transferred that one. I just found out it was unsuccessful. By Day 6, none of the other embryos had made it to blastocyst. I'm 29 and really wasn't expecting egg quality to be the problem! So far my diagnosis is unexplained/mild endometriosis. I'm trying to remain hopeful the next try will work better...

Any one else on the young side with an ok ovarian reserve but low egg quality?

I was almost 31 and was diagnosed with egg quality issues after my first IVF. We had one embryo and were successful. I'm back for number two now at almost 34 and had a much better cycle quality-wise with different medications and doses. The cycle failed but we had embryos to freeze and the doctor thinks my embryos are actually of "normal quality for my age."
