Ugh. I just looked at the available schools for K in the OOB lottery. Does anyone know anything about Francis-Stevens? I think it's the only one I might consider.

Don't despair, the numbers posted by DCPS have little or nothing to do with the actual slots. Really. |
I heard Francis-Stevens is up and coming. I'd post on the listserv for more feedback on the school too. |

11:17 can you explain what you mean? What was your experience? |
Yesterday there was a list on the DCPS website, a PDF, with available spots. I cannot find it today. It may be my stupidity, or it may have been removed. (Did anyone save it down to their computer?)
There will be spots available in Pre-K for OOB at Thomson and spots in other grades as well. We're very happy at this school. New building, lovely teachers, terrific principal, great music... Check out www.thomsonelementary.org--open house is Feb 4th, 9am. |
Check your browser history.
Ctrl+H And then look at the sites you viewed yesterday. If you remember wording of the title, you can even search for it in your history. |
So.....how does one find out about actual slots??? The online form for OOB registration does not allow you to put your name into the lottery for schools that show no open places for the grade your child is entering. If there is a way around that or more info to be gleaned, please spill the beans. |
For those who want to apply to a school that you BELIEVE will have OOB slots, the form stops you at first, but it does let you put in for the school.
I have children at Thomson. We like it. They will have spots in all grades Pre-K through 5. Right now, the plan for three year olds is 2 Headstart classes, which is income based. I do not work for DCPS, but all I can say to everyone who has been frustrated in this lottery process, is that I am truly sorry. There are some gems in DCPS. Some wonderful teachers, principals, schools, etc... They are out there, but often tough to find. However, based on my perspective as a parent, the main administration is still terribly broken. I think it's the worst it's every been during my 6 years as a DCPS parent. It's ironic, but this lottery actually worked pretty well in the past few years. (Ok, it was still nearly impossible to find a spot in a decent school.) I can tell you that the actual online forms worked last year. I wish everyone the best of luck. |
