ES with high percentage of Asian students

Anonymous
We are thinking of moving to Centerville for a better house and looked ES around there. Some schools are good but have 40-50% Asian. Is it a good thing or bad thing? Would my DC have pressure to study hard to not be left behind? Sorry if my question is silly. This is my first child who has not attend school yet. So I really know little about schools and how to analyze schools.

Thanks in advance for any honest answers!

I don't know OP. Is it a good or bad thing to judge whether a school is good or bad based on some racist generalizations?

Centreville, not Centerville.

I am really not. I like Asians. I know Asian pushes hard on education. I am not the pushing type. I want to know if I will fit in.

You will fit in if the other 50-60% are whatever you are. Many Asians think Americans are dumb and lazy. Low test scores and grades reinforces the stereotype.

Op here.

I am not judging. I think my wording is wrong. I truly does not want to offend anyone.

Since I did not know how to edit or delete my post, pleases ignore it.

OP. Avoid Colin Powell or Greenbriar West and you'll be fine.

Some of the same people who jump on posters like you spend half their time on the AAP forum asking how to get their kids into AAP and TJ. If that's not your scene, you probably wouldn't be happy at Powell or GBW.

Stay away from schools with lots of asians. They will not be friends with your kids in later years. and their parents will push them into their own social circles. My DS had 3 good asians friends in elementary school that will not interact with DS's group and have their own groups in high school. It is a different culture. Not true friendships outside their culture.

I don't live in VA, and I'm Asian. But I wouldn't want my kids to go to a school that was 50% Asian for various reasons.

Actually, I have a friend who sends her kid to a school with a high Asian and south Asian population (not DC). She says it's really tough bc all the parents push their kids. And... My friend (and I) are Asian ourselves!

Not all Asian parents push their kids. Stop reinforcing the false "Tiger Mom" myth that stereotypes all Asians. All caring parents want their kids to do well in school not just Asian parents. Asians are already attacked for being "too competitive academically, prep all the time, cut-throat, nothing but drones etc." because they out perform other groups. Sure some Asian parents may go bit far but not all Asian parents push and push.
