Our DC's all play tennis year year round. The oldest is 11 and is playing in tournaments. We have taken lessons and or played on teams with the Arlington Y, Skyline Sport and Health, and have had lessons from a few other places over the years.
I grew up going to a club with a very strong tennis program that I would like to replicate for for my kids -- they all like tennis. So, where should we look? Who should we talk to? I'm done with all the so-so programs. Thanks! |

OP here again. I've done a little bit of research and would like any first hand experiences with the below tennis programs.
FWIW, we did lessons a few years ago at East Potomac Tennis Center and were actually quite happy with the lessons, but stopped going because we couldn't coordinate our schedules with their tennis lesson schedule, but I am definitely willing to reconsider this facility/tennis program if anyone else has any insights. The Junior Tennis Champions Center probably has the best players in the area and is really amazing if your kids are very good (the champion's program is basically trying to train future pros). A lot of money has been allocated to this facility by the USTA. As you know, it is often a pain to get to Colllege Park, but they do have weekend lessons/clinics.
4-Star also has a good junior training program. They are located near Merrifield. http://www.4startennis.com/ The Fairfax Racquet Club is also trains some very good junior players. |

| OP here. Thanks for the feedback. Our kids are pretty good but I find the College Park drive a serious headache coming from Arlington. Merrifield probably isn't any better but I will look into both options. |

Wherever you go, you should ask to take your kid(s) for a single session and see if you like the vibe of the instructors and the other kids. I did not like Arlington Y (it felt like a after-school care program with marginal tennis, at best).
Also, I would not go to the facility at College Park unless your kids get recommended by a coach. You kids are not going to work with the special coaches unless they are nationally ranked, so you are going to get similar coaching to other, closer locations. |
