Books on my Kindle?

Anonymous
Hi everyone. I have a Kindle Fire and mostly use it to play games- I have never read a book on it! I'm going away next week and think it might be a good idea to put some books on it for the plane rides. I don't want to spend a fortune on digital books, and I have Amazon Prime. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Genres I like: fiction, biography, mystery (but more old-fashioned, like Miss Marple). I read One For the Money and hated it, so not interested in any more Evanovich (I mention this because I have friends who keep recommending her, but I can't do it).

I know my taste seems very specific, but I appreciate any suggestions anyone has. Thanks!

These are not old fashioned mysteries in terms of when they were written, but the style is old fashioned to me. There are no over the top psycho killers or "thriller" plots that I find in most current mysteries.

Sheila Connolly's Apple Orchard Series
Karen MacInerney's Gray Whale Inn Series
MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin or Hamish MacBeth's series

Don't Let Me Go - should be in the free borrow one book per month section on Kindle.

You can also download the Librivox app for free and listen to audio books:
http://www.amazon.com/BookDesign-LibriVox-Audio-Books/dp/B0086W56I0

They have a lot of titles of books in the public domain. The narrators are volunteer so the quality varies, but there are some pretty good ones.

Check the kindle daily deals and the monthly deals. You may find something you like for 1.99-3.99.

Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie might be good for your "old fashioned" mysteries.

Get a library card. So easy to check out and return books. Love it.

Oh, I have one, and I bought 7 books at a book sale to take along too, but I figure it might save some space in my bags not to drag tons of books around. I have 2 planes going and 3 coming back, and plan to leave the books I finish in seat pockets or airport chairs, but I still figured it was a good idea to have backups/ maybe eliminate some of the bulk.

Ah, I got it! Thank you. Another poster suggested the library system and I looked into it tonight.

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions- very helpful to me. I am (relatively) young but technologically super-outdated, and not familiar with all the stuff everyone else does/ thinks of automatically.

I love, love, love Lee Child. I'm working my way down the Jack Reacher series.
