Protesting a Montgomery County Parking Ticket -- is it worth it?

Anonymous
I was parked in a unmetered 2 hour parking zone in Montgomery County for an hour. I left for 45 minutes and came back and parked in almost the same spot for an hour and got a $60 ticket. I was not there for more than 2 hours but I can see how parking enforcement could think I was there for 3 hours. Is it worth trying to fight the ticket? I was helping a friend move which is why I was going back and forth.

I don't think you will win if you are parked in the same zone different spot.

I would fight it. Can't hurt, and you might win.

I tried to fight a parking ticket once but they made me pay the ticket (post collateral), then said I'd be called for my case and get a refund if I won. They never gave me a traffic court date, even though I followed up and tried to get them to assign one. These meter people must have a quota. In my case, I wasn't illegally parked, nor did I overstay a meter. The ticket didn't even have the correct address of where the violation supposedly occurred. Was this in downtown Bethesda? The whole process is a scam.

I know in DC if you did this you would owe the ticket.

It was in downtown Bethesda. In total I was there less than 2 hours but it doesn't sound like it will be worth trying to fight it. Thanks.

Also, OP, in MoCo you pay the court costs if you lose so you could end up owing more than the $60.

You lose either way. Either in money or time. You might think you won because a judge says you don't gave to pay, but you wasted your time there instead. It's a no win. Situation.

Which is worth more? Your time or the money?

I was incorrectly ticketed in a Bethesda parking garage. I paid the ticket on-line and had to write a letter explaining the situation and to ask for a court date to refute the ticket. I never got a court date but I did get a refund in the mail!

NP. Why? OP was not parked in the same zone for more than 2 hours total.

I don't know about Montgomery County but many places you can contest a ticket online. If that's a possibility, I would do it here.

Always fight. Make them work for the money.

Not smart. It could cost you more time and money. Consider case-by-case. This one is not worth.

Protest outside the courthouse with a sign? I think you'll lose.
