I have recieved an e-mail stating that timing can help parenting special needs kids. I mean that giving them some time to finish a task and it motivates them more to finish it. Also that it helps them to learn what time really means....so... do you know any kind of timer application? Which is dedicated especially for children? I do not want to use the default timer app because it is boring, it could not even motivate me! so do you have any tips? or experiences with applications like this?
Thanks for your help...

Many people recommend the "Time Timer" which is an analog physical clock that shows the amount of time remaining with a red strip that gets smaller and smaller. In general it is recommended that analog clocks teach a *sense* of time passage better than digital clocks. For a while I disabled all our digital clocks to teach analog and reinforce visually concepts of time passage. My husband was annoyed ; )
Dadsworksheets.com has a digital timer however that has funny sounds you can choose to start and stop. It's a website, not app, and free. (Excellent math practice worksheets for free there too. I have used them for years to drill math skills). |

We just use a clock with the big hand and little hand: Helped DS learn to tell time too.
When he was younger, we used a hourglass similar to the one they use at school. We still use this for brushing teeth. DS is very motivated in "beating" the time so even if it is low tech, it works for us. |
And what do you think about HopHopClock? It looks very nice, but what are you opinions?

Thanks about mentioning HopHopClock. I checked it out and it looks to be modern version of time timer.
I think that it is more clear, and not looking like 70's, I switched to that. |
