| My daughter has a late October birthday and won't be able to enter kindergarten when she turns 5. I know she won't be able to enter public kindergarten because of the cut off but I was told some people send their child to private school so they can go ahead and start at 5. Is anyone aware of any private schools that allow late birthdays into kindergarten? |

Ooops. Just checked their (Corkran's) web site. They are now in line with Maryland state law of 5 by September 1 for kindergarten.
It is possible to test into kindergarten in PG public schools, but principals are not eager to do it for good reason. |
| I believe your child has to have no later than an early October birthday to take the early entrance test. The test is done centrally and not by individual school. You likely have missed the deadline for applying to take the test. I believe private schools may have to be in line with the law now, but check with the private schools. Try Lanham Christian or Bowie Montessori, for instance. |

Not sure why anyone would be eager to do this. I think being an older child is an advantage in the classroom and socially. Our private discourages this. But a lot of people seem to be putting their children in other privates for K than returning as our school will take a child who has completed kindergarten.

My daughter has a November birthday and if I had the option, I would have her start early. My girls are in the 99% percentile in height and in most cases tower over their peers. My older DD is the youngest in her K class and is a head taller than many of her classmates. Speaking from experience, the height difference is an issue once puberty hits.

Julia Brown Montessori allows the child to enter as long as they turn 5 by the end of the school year. Our daughter has a mid Oct BD and we did that for her @ JBMS.
They have multiple locations in MD. juliabrownschools.com/ |
| I enrolled my 4 year old son into Julia Brown Montessori because they agreed that he could be evaluated for an early start into kindergarten. However, one week before school started, they decided the evaluation would no longer be an option. Please beware. |
