ISO accountant w/expertise in sabbatical taxes

Anonymous
My husband is taking a US-based academic sabbatical in 2014-15. The tax implications are mind-bogglingly complex. I have hitherto always done our taxes myself, but I would really rather avoid wading into the sabbatical tax morass. So, I am looking for recommendations for a tax adviser with experience and expertise in dealing with the myriad sabbatical tax issues. Thanks in advance!

Are you normally in the US? Why is it so complicated? How come it isn't just a question of basing the taxes on whatever the income is (even if it's $0)?

Yes, through many sabbaticals I've never done anything different. I get my salary just like before. Maybe you're looking for tax breaks of some sort? Or maybe it isn't technically a sabbatical?

Apparently there are a lot of potential tax deductions for expenses related to a sabbatical like travel.

Exactly. There are all the tax-deductible business expenses (rent, utilities, transportation, meals, etc.) plus all the issues related to renting out your own residence, which is unbelievably complicated.
