New lighting fixture but super high ceiling...help!

Anonymous
I purchased a new lighting fixture to replace the builder's grade version in my foyer. Problem is that the ceiling is super high (I live in a pretty tall 3 story townhouse). My handyman said he couldn't do it, that scaffolding was needed. I was surprised that he couldn't just do it with a super tall ladder, but who knows, maybe he doesn't have a super tall ladder? Who can I contact to get this job done? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg to have it installed.

But you will, probably. Call a lighting store -- maybe Dominion Electric on Lee Highway in Arlington -- and ask what they recommend.

Find out how tall the ceiling is, then start calling electricians and tell them the ceiling height over the phone. They'll either be able to do it or they won't.

You'll probably need someone to bring a Genie lift. (A portable one-man hydraulic cherry-picker.) It's easier/cheaper than building scaffolding. But not everyone is going to have one (or the truck to get it out to your house).

You kind of made that choice when you bought the townhouse with the 3-story entry foyer. (I assume it's 3-story. If it were only 2 you could do it with a ladder.)
