Anyone been interviewing with DOJ civil division for various openings?

Anonymous
There seem to have been a flood of openings in various components of the civil division since the hiring freeze was lifted? Has anyone interviewed at these? If so, have you been given a sense of timing/process at all? H is very interested in moving to DOJ and has been contacted for a few interviews, but none of the offices seem to be in a hurry at all - interviews are being scheduled a month or more out. He's wondering whether that means he is lower on their list or whether they are just moving very slowly.

Hmm, I find that odd. I am in the torts division and while it takes a while for us to decide who we want to interview, we try to get people in within a week or two of contacting them to set up the interview. But we also don't set up interviews with people who are "lower on our list."

No!!! They are hiring???

I'm in government but not DOJ. We interviewed over the holidays and had to coordinate multiple schedules (panel of three interviewers), which resulted in lag time in scheduling. It's summer vacation time and that could be why the interviews are so far out. I agree with PP that they're not wasting time interviewing people low on the list.

I think it also matters which component/s you're talking about -- some components only have one or two slots to fill; my component has multiple openings and a correspondingly longer list of people to interview.

Thanks, all. I'm OP and work in the govt too (but not DOJ). Our office only interviews the very top candidates but wasn't sure if some or all parts of DOJ maybe had a broader interviewing practice. He has 4 interviews so far so hopefully something will click!

That's terrific, I bet something will. He must be a really good candidate to get that many interviews. We got 200 applications for 1 slot, and interviewed 11 people out of all those - and we are not even a particularly prestigious division of justice.

Thanks for this info! My fingers are crossed -- he has been wanting to get into DOJ for awhile but the hiring freeze was a hindrance. Hopefully something pans out.
