We don't have a microwave (and don't intend to get one anytime soon due to lack of space) and are looking to ramp up our household popcorn consumption as its the one snack food we can all agree on. Anyone out there like their air popper? Or their stovetop popper? Thanks for any kernels of wisdom

| Isn't a popcorn popper only slightly smaller than a small microwave?? |

Heavy bottom non stick pot. A little oil and cover the bottom w/kernals.
Pop directly on the stove. Butter with real butter. Mmmmmm. |

Yes! Do not go out and buy a popcorn maker that will take up unnecessary space. I make popcorn every night. All you need is a pot, oil (I use a tablespoon of coconut oil.), and popcorn. (I will put in 1/3 to 1/2 cup depending on how many people will be eating it. Oh...I do lightly salt it too. All you need to do is Heat up the oil (medium heat). Once it is melted or hot, put in 2-3 kernels of corn. Once they pop, your oil is ready. Take them out, and pour your kernels in. It takes about 2 minutes for everything to pop. Enjoy! |
| ^^ Forgot to add...make sure you cover your pot while the kernels are popping. |
+1. I use nutritional yeast instead of butter and salt, but bottom line is just use an old pan you already have. |

we have this one. http://www.amazon.com/Presto-04820-PopLite-Popper-White/dp/B00006IUWA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406482966&sr=8-1&keywords=hot+air+popper
BTW I assume you have storage space and not counter space which is why you can have an air popper and not a microwave. We also buy popcorn and those kernel seasoning on ebay. Yum Yum |
+1 Same one we have. |
| Why can't you just do it on the stove in a non stick pot or pan? That's what my mom used to do. |

Use a stainless steel pot, not nonstick.
Coconut oil, and Orville Reddenbacher kernels only. Instructions are on the jar. |
| Coconut oil, salt the pan when you melt the oil and pop in any pan that has a lid-- cover but not completely, a little air gap while keep the kernels tender. |
Non stick is very wrong for popcorn. The kernels ding the non stick finish eventually causing it to flake away into your food while cooking. You want a regular pot with a heavier bottom. No non stick finish. |
| We also use a large stainless pot. Works fine. |
