I've just started storing breastmilk and I purchased a 50-pack of the Medela bags. I'm concerned I may not be sealing them well enough - the twist-tie system leaves me wondering (I wish it were more like a ziplock seal). Should I get over it and just rest assured that I'm probably sealing them just fine, or is there a better bag out there that I should consider. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I mostly used the Lansinoh bags -- they hold more than Medela, have a double ziploc seal, and I didn't have any leakage problems when I later thawed the milk.

I used the Medela Pump and Save bags which have a ziploc seal and had the added advantage of being able to attach directly to the pump so no getting bottles dirty and no pouring milk into the bags (and the spill possibility that comes with that). The bottoms are thicker which allow them to stand up better than other bags.

Lansinoh bags here too, I LOVE them.
Lansinoh the only thing that I liked.
I was the queen of frozen milk for two children. In my opinion, you can't beat the Gerber ziplock milk storage bags they sell at CVS. They are easy to buy, use and work great.
I like the Medela pump and save ones too, since they have a ziploc top and you can attach them directly to medela pumps.
Another vote for the Lansinoh bags.
Another vote for Lasinoh bags.
I hated the medela pump and save bags. I could never master pumping into them and then getting them off the pump without spilling. Love the Lansinoh ones. Plus, a 50 back of the Medela is 19.99 while a 50 pack of the Lansinoh is 9.99 at Target. That kind of made my decision for me. Plus, they lie flat in the freezer
I tried them all. Recommend Lansinoh first, Gerber second. Throw out the medelas.
I love the Lansinoh bags. I tried the Gerber and used them because I had them but they were hard to open and I spilled a lot of milk that way. Lansinoh was the best quality for the best price, I think.
OP here - quick question about the Lansinoh bags. I use the Pump N Style Advanced - would I pump directly into the bags or do I pump into a bottle and then pour the contents into the bag?
Pump into bottle, then pour into a bag.

I pump into bottles, 6 oz Medela. I store the milk overnight in the fridge and then send it to daycare in the bottles and they feed it from those bottles. What does not get used gets put into a Lansinoh storage bag and frozen. I freeze them flat and then once I have about 10-12 I put them in a larger freezer bag and label the outside with the dates. They form "bricks" of sorts and makes storage in our deep freeze really easy.
Initially, I was transferring the milk to the Lansinoh bags right after pumping but then I realized how expensive those bags were only to be thrown out the next day. I bought about 8-10 extra collection bottles and was given a few more so I never had to worry that there were not any clean bottles. Good luck, pumping is a lot of work. |
