| We are a family of 4 with 2 kids under 5, and we spend on average about $11k a month. |
| Yikes! I'm afraid to have kids. I can't wrap my head around paying that much for a kid or 2 |
| Family of mom and teen. We spend around $4200 a month, not including retirement or college savings. |
About the same as you. My kids are teens. |
| Two adults one toddler one on the way. 15k. |
Pp here - that's 15 k all in - includes all of our expenses. |
| Family of 5 and we spend about $9500 which includes everything but savings, which is about $3000 per month. |
| $6500 for a family of 4. In VA, but not NoVA. |
| Family of 4. Two toddlers. About $10k. Save $5k. |
About the same, maybe a little more. Also four with 2 kids under 5 in NWDC. |
|
Family of 4 - All expenses within 10K. In a crunch, we can tighten our belt and do with 6 K.
Savings separately. |
| Single mom with kid -- about $5,500 a month, with savings. I hope to have a little more breathing room when the little guy starts school, and can go back to saving more. |
Us too! I'm trying to figure out how to reduce expenses. |

Sort of meaningless unless one also specified how much one spends on mortgage, taxes, etc or rent.
For example we spend $11k monthly but $6.5K is housing related. |
| Family of 5 -- three elementary school kids-- about $7000 a month. Our mortgage/property taxes makes up about $2,700 of that figure. It feels very tight, but our HHI was basically cut in half last year so we scaled way back. I've been trying to channel Mr. Money Mustache's optimism and love of frugal living. |
