If you "win" the Pre-K Lottery can you decline the spot?

Because of all the economic uncertainty, we are considering putting our name in the pre-K lottery for our in-bounds school (Lafayette). If we get a spot but later want to decline it because we keep our DC in the private school where our DC currently attends, how long to we have to decline the spot so that someone else can get it? I believe our tuition is due in June, so we are going to have to decide by then.

Yes you can decline without any obligation...

lots of people wait until the last minute and spots open up even after school starts. Of course the earlier you decline, the more considerate of those on the waitlist.

Lots of families "win" more than one lottery (OOBs + charters) which is why names keep rolling off of waitlists at some schools all through the summer. The earlier you make your choice, the easier it is for other families to make their plans.

You will have to confirm that you want the spot or they will automatically pass you over.

We declined a spot last year, no problems.
