Scheduling interview question

Anonymous
Hi, I just received an email to go in for an in person interview. They want to see if I am available this week. The problem is, I have a total thyroidectomy (suspected cancer) scheduled tomorrow morning and will be out for a week.

I am really interested in the position and don't want them to think I am not making this meeting a priority.

Should I reply and say I have a planned surgery and will be out for a week and will be available end of next week or should I say I have a commitment and won't be able to come until late next week?

I'd say surgery or medical procedure. That way it doesn't sound like you're blowing them off for another interview. But maybe PPs will disagree. Good luck with your surgery; hope it has a good outcome.

Personally, I would say a scheduled medical procedure and then offer your availability. You certainly don't have to share that information. I would because I'd want them to know that I'm still really interested in the job and it is only due to an unavoidable conflict that I would delay the interview.

But that's just me.

Thank you both for your reply. I am going to go with scheduled medical procedure.
