| This isn't an issue until next year but does anyone know in moco if I live in one elementary school district and my child goes to daycare in the next one over, is he allowed to go to that school? Just wondering I'm I'm going to need to find new after care. |
| You can apply to transfer your child to the school where your daycare is. Check mcps website for deadline. |
| If the school you want to transfer to is over capacity, your request will likely not go through. |
|
Op here, so you can request it but its not an automatic guarantee?
Thanks PP's |
| The schools are Burtonsville and Fairland if anyone has any experience with those. |
| Not automatically granted is correct. You could also consider changing daycare providers for before and aftercare. You can call the school you are zoned for and ask the office for a list of providers that drop off and pick up at your home school. |
| My child goes to Fairland. Both Burtonsville and Fairland have Kids After Hours before-and-aftercare at the schools, so that's an option if you end up staying at Burtonsville and need care there. I don't think Fairland is over capacity, so you might be able to get a transfer, but I really don't know how that works. And last year's Fairland kindergarten class was quite large -- they had to add a sixth classroom. |
| Unfortunately, it's become increasingly more difficult to have a COSA granted. The initial response is "no" almost 100% of the time. You have a better shot with an appeal (but still not likely) and that comes a bit late. You may or may not have enough time to set up alternative care. I agree to look at the daycare within the school. It can be a fun extension of the day. |
