Job with more vacation

I'm in sales and have 15 days of vacation.

I desire more like 20-25 days of vacation. Has anyone successfully negotiated more vacation? Any positions that naturally have more vacation?

Some companies over more vacation than others and certain levels within a company have more vacation than others. I just took a new job that was a great fit for me, but the vacation policy of the company is 2 weeks. I had 5 weeks in my last job, so couldn't imagine 2 weeks of vacation. I negotiated an extra week, which was on par with the vacation for the level above me.

I wish more companies used vacation days in their packages. I'd willing take less money to get more vacation and I'd probably end up doing the same amount of work.

Try capital one, google or eBay.

Some companies have unlimited vacation now which I guess makes sense if you are sales or commission based.

I always hated the idea of discussing this when I was hiring somebody. They ask the question and all I can think is - you want to work here, but all you are concerned about is how much time you get off so that you won't have to work here.

You have to remember that for some people, espeically those with kids, time off is a benefit as valuable as actually money. As a PP mentioned some people would take a lower salary for more vacation. Vacation and sick days are typically used for kids when it comes to parents. So any day you don't have to pay for supplemental daycare (b/c you can use leave instead) is a day you saved money. So for some people and extra 2 weeks vacation might be worth a lower salary. A smart employee calcuates the entire benefits package before accepting a job. Especially those who already have jobs. A move has to be worth it.

As an employer you should be happy if you can offset a lower salary with something like more vacation, flex works hours or teleworking. The cost to the employer is quite low as employees are still expected to complete their work programs regardless of leave plans. I am taking off the entire month of August but I am still expected to completed my FY15 work program.

For a commision-based sales job, vacation time should be unlimited since it doesn't matter to your productivity and pay.

You're not US born/raised correct? no way you can be and still ask this question. Hell, we all DESIRE more vacation but most of us are just grateful to have a job.

Funny - I want the opposite. I never go on vacation and cash put as much of it as they let me. I just want the money. Wanna trade?

Not really. But I am concerned about the total salary package, and vacation is part of that. I recently turned down an offer that was 5K over my current salary but had several weeks less paid time off--so in fact, my total package would have been less money. If I get 90K to work 45 weeks per year, then if you want me to work 50 weeks, you better offer 100K.
