British Airways (any nicer than American/United?)

Anonymous
Is a coach seat on British Airways any nicer than a coach seat on United (DC to London)?

My experience has been that Virgin Atlantic (the cabin ambience, seat comfort, the food/etc they give you on board, the entertainment options) was much better than American Airlines. Wondering if British Airways is similar to Virgin in this respect? (I'm assuming United is similar to American...)

Thanks!

I totally agree with PP. I think that across-the-board my travel experiences have been a million times better on European airlines, and two million times better if I'm traveling with the kids. I've flown British Air specifically, and I thought it was quite good, though I'm still partial to Virgin.

Virgin is better than BA, although flying BA is still better than United or AA - or at least less unpleasant. The staff are somewhat less full of hate and malice than the US airlines.

OMG Yes!

My husband, daughter and I were re-routed on a British Airways flight to London after getting bumped due to inclement weather, and it was such a nice, civilized flight. The flight attendants were prepared for children (coloring books and activities) the food was better, and it was just all-around a much more pleasant experience than the flight home on a Domestic carrier.

I'm the OP -- thanks for the feedback. We ended up finding the same price on Virgin Atlantic, so we're flying with them - YAY. Thanks. My husband has never flown Virgin so he's a little bummed about not getting the United frequent flyer miles, but I think he'll come around once we're on board and he can see the difference for himself. I had him read this thread before booking -- so thanks!

Fine, but please read this before getting your expectations too high on the food:

We chose BA over American for our trip to Europe strictly because of reviews we'd read about American being overtly hostile to families travelling with children. BA in coach is still a cattle car, but the flight attendants are very nice, they give the children little packages of games and other stuff, and overall we felt welcomed. I wish we could afford business class, but other than that I was happy with BA.
