Does anyone have a favorite vitamix smoothie recipe they could share? I just got one and am super excited to try recipes--healthy green shakes that taste decent! Thx

Did you get the cookbook that came with it? Tons of options.

Frozen strawberries, frozen banana, fresh spinach, almond milk is a good place to start

There's also a free app you can get for your phone called Green Smoothies. It even has recipes for kids!

For green shakes I use whatever fruit I have plus greens, and then I like to add lime and ginger. I got the idea from here: http://joyofblending.com/vitamix-recipes/

I use a cup or so of milk (almond, soy, whatever), plus spinach, frozen banana and fresh fruit. This morning it was banana and peaches, yesterday it was grapes, strawberry and banana. Sometimes I just use banana and the powdered peanut butter PB, sometimes I add vanilla protein powder. Don't be afraid to taste it and add something else!

These are all great suggestions, but are these drinks fattening when you put a lot of fruit in them? I would like to replace one meal or have as a snack. I know it's alll halthy, but I don't want to eat meals plus have a smoothie a day and accidentally gain weight....

I often turn smoothies into a meal replacement by adding things like nuts or protein powder. Hasn't lead to weight gain for me.

If I'm making a smoothie just for myself I like to use the 32-oz container because that gives me some portion control. It's easy to fill the 64-oz container and end up with more smoothie than you need.

Here is what we do (makes 2 smoothies): 2+ cups spinach, 1 frozen banana, 1 cup frozen wild blueberries, 1 cup other frozen fruit - usually cherries and strawberries, about 1-2 cups unsweetened almond milk, plus 1-2 scoops protein powder.

I do a breakfast smoothie with yogurt like other posters have said, but for the afternoon I have a green smoothie that is excellent:

Juice of one lime
1 cup coconut water
1.5 cups spinach
1.5 cups kale
3/4 cup frozen pineapple
extra water or ice if needed

I buy the big mixed super greens bag at Costco and just put it in the freezer - has kale, spinach and chard in it.
