Not totally DC metro, but this place called Edgewater (close to Annapolis) has amazing crabcakes. They're the size of softballs without a lot of filler. They are awesome.

Seriously, it's so good. They also have fabulous beer battered shrimp - the lightest, most delicate layer of batter that is superb.

Totally agree. Go to the one in Lanham for the authentic (strip mall) experience. I do not enjoy G&M (and the other ones by BWI owned by the same folks) to be as good. I don't get the hype with those places.
