Where to get sweet corn?

Anonymous
We just returned from a week at the beach and I am going through corn withdrawal. Where can I get good, sweet corn? The stuff at Giant is leathery. I'd love to support a farm stand or market.

There are farmers markets everywhere - check the Freshfarm website for markets in DC.

It's just now coming into season around here. It's been at the farmer's market for the last week or two, still not in huge quantities. You'll see a lot more of it the last week of this month and in August.

The stuff in the grocery store is trucked in from Florida. For the really good stuff you need it to be much closer to local. Peak sweetness is the first 24 hours after picking.

Thanks, you correctly guessed that my question was actually whether or not the good local stuff was here yet. I'll check out the farmer's market this weekend. Thanks for letting me know!

Trader Joe's offers frozen corn (off the cob) that tastes as close to fresh picked sweet corn that I have ever had, if you need to tide yourself over until your preferred farmers' market day.
