Definitely the beach at the State Park. The Discovery Center there is also kind of cute, there are some turtles and other things the kids can look at.
Honi honi bar has a great big grassy lawn with a playground right on the lake. You can get a drink and watch the kids play. Bring a frisbee or something to toss around. There are really no great restaurants there. Uno's is ok pizza. For breakfast, Traders Coffeeshop is pretty good. You can also drive into Oakland and check out one of the local diners, but I will warn you, if you want something other than a milkshake and cheeseburger, you are asking for trouble. There is a pretty decent transportation museum in Oakland and a good bookstore that are worth checking out if you have a rainy day. If your kids like trains/cars/etc. they will probably love it. |

We've always gone there since our kids were that age. It is harder. State Park is good. Our kids just like to watch the boats too if you have a lakeside house.
Broadford Lake is good too - about a 15 minute drive but nice beach and roped off. Also playgrounds there and gentle walking trails. For restaurants - Archie's is great. Fast bbq that is quite yummy. My picky eaters love the mac n cheese and other things. Ice cream at Lakeside Creamery. Swallow Falls Lake Park - has an easy hike to the main falls. The loop is great but not sure how easy it would be yet. Great hemlock trees. |
