Do kids have fun at your pool?

Do they spend time playing and swimming together? Or do they just attend swim team/swim meet then leave? Do you stay at the pool and socialize? Or is it not the kind of moms you socialize with? I am curious. One or two of the moms seemed surprised not to see me at the pool. Thing is, DC is not on swim team, and we have too many activities and social engagements as it is! The pool is not a priority for us, at all.

My oldest (9) is on the swim team, but my 6yo isn't. The 9yo's practice ends at 10. Pool opens at 11. We usually hang out until 11 (kids play with their friends who have siblings practicing from 10 till 11) and then we often stay until noon or 1:00 depending on what we have going on that day. We are not evening weekday pool people since we spend so much time there in the morning/early afternoon. We often go on Sunday afternoons so that my husband can spend time with the kids at the pool.

We work FT so no swim team in our family. We go in the afternoon/early evening after work. Mine goes off the diving board, plays by herself, or finds some kids to play with.

Life revolves around the pool my ES-age kids in the summer. We have a nanny and she takes them there on week days in lieu of camp. They also do swim team, but are "B" swimmers so the season is now over. DH and I both work full time, but we make a big effort to have dinner there a couple of evenings each week, then spend much of the weekend there (5-8 hours across the two days) so they can hang with their friends (and we can hang with ours!). We easily know 10-12 families and have impromptu dinners, cocktail hours, board games with them. Love our pool!

Same here. Pretty much our entire social lives in the summer revolve around the pool and at least one family member is there every day. My kids swim on the swim team and it is down the street from our house so they can walk there by themselves.

Our summer revolves around it: swim team, socializing, having dinner there most days of the week and the kids playing for hours on end.

What do you have for dinner there? Do they have a restaurant? Curious.

We also work FT so kids are not on swim team. But we go to the pool probably 4-5 times a week; it would be more if the younger one was a totally self-sufficient swimmer and didn't need a parent within close reach for safety's sake. They love it, it's hugely relaxing after a hot day of camp, and it's the one place where my elementary kid just hangs out - he isn't the most popular kid in the world but he can go to the pool any day of the week and find someone to play with. It's the best part of our neighborhood and our summer (and I say that as someone who isn't big on swimming and wouldn't go except for the kids.)

I have two middle schoolers and we did not join this year. We just didn't go often enough last year. I am not sure why but they rarely wanted to go. Maybe they get enough water time in at camp.

@once every 3 months or so. But then we use up all our fighting energy yelling at the teen children.

We have a pool in our backyard. Yes, our kids and their friends have a great time there. DH bbqs almost every night when there are friends over.

I'm thinking they belong to a nice country club with a decent poolside menu

This describes us too. Kids do swim team, so I take them after camp for practice, and then we will stay for a bit afterwards. We eat there every Friday night and most Saturdays and Sundays, occasionally during the week. We sometimes order pizza/pasta/salad or Chinese, on weekends it's easier to plan ahead and bring a cooler with food to grill. Last night we grilled flank steak and corn on the cob, and I brought a green salad and loaf of bread.
We have tons of friends from the neighborhood, and it is the big gathering spot. We all sit around and have cocktails while kids all play together. We love the pool!

Or they bring a picnic, or have pizza delivered, or bring stuff to throw on the communal grill.
