Muscle soreness and water retention?

Can these two go hand in hand?

Due to a foot injury, I've been focusing on doing more upper body and abdominal exercises, that have left me very sore I noticed I wasn't peeing/sweating that much according to my fluid intake, and felt "swollen."

Last night I probably got up about 8 times (which doesn't correlate to my water intake yesterday), and my muscle soreness was going away in the past day or so.

Could muscle soreness cause temporary water retention, or just a coincidence?
