Green and were attached to the stem. Some of them were pretty small. A friend had a few out at a party and they were magnificent. She said she brought them back from Spain and had no idea what they were called. Any idea on

These are not olives, they are caper berries. I got a big $9.99 jar of "Mediterranean" olives at World market and it contained some caper berries, garlic and pepper.
I may have seen just the caper berries in jars, but don't remember where.

Yep capers. Tiny seeds - kind of pinkish/redish flesh? Not the tiny little caper balls you probably know about, but real fresh ones. I think they also sell them by the jar at Whole Foods.

Safeway or Giant probably have them too. Look near the pickles or sometimes in "ethnic" food:
