My kids are younger, but when I was 13 my summer consisted of--going to the pool, playing Super Nintendo with my brother and our neighbors, walking to the convenience store, riding bikes, exploring in the woods behind the library, reading, watching tv. I was 13 in 1992, so it's not like I was a child of the 70s either.

I know my kids will definitely have a summer like the kids above and not like mine at 13, but it's so different!

I'd be curious as to the 1/2 day theatre camp. Reference for the future; my kid would love this.

Theatre Lab's musical theatre institute for teens -- fantastic program.

We saw this group perform last year: http://www.travelingplayers.org/

They were awesome and I can't wait until my kid's old enough to participate.

My 13 year old rising 9th grader is doing a lot of tennis camp, two weeks of sleepaway (just got home), basketball camp, family vacation, one week of hang out. But aside from that one week of hang out he is out of the house from at least 9-3 all summer. None of us would be happy with him at home.

My 14 year old rising 9th grader is spending 5 weeks doing the summer bridge program that his HS requires (M-F 8:30 - 12:30). It's pretty intense, they are taking 3 classes and have projects and homework every day. Considering this I'm letting him take the rest of the summer off from organized activities. We have lots of family stuff planned though, camping weekend, beach weekend, week long family vacation and another nearby weekend getaway.
