My DS is 3.5, and can barely write a letter. He doesn't even hold the pencil correctly. Could that mean he has a disability?

Doubt it. Does he go to preschool?

3, but just want to add that even at 4 DC is one of the few in preschool who do it, so I wouldn't worry if your kid is not doing it yet.

I'm this poster. It was very early 4 and it's possible he was doing it earlier in school. One day I noticed he brought home some art from school and his name was on it and it was clear he had written his own name.

I have friends who actively work on this with their kids at home, which is great. But that kid might tend to do it earlier.

No. He's fine. The kids writing their names at 3 are not holding their pencils correctly. That's why the handwriting is so wobbly.
