Where to get really good pulled pork sandwiches?

Vinegar-y, Carolina-style?

A visiting relative is asking, and I have no idea.

no idea but i'd love to know. check the poshseven website - they are doing a 2014 best of contest, and there's a BBQ restaurant category. The only BBQ I've heard of thats decent around here is red hot and blue but ive never been

Shane's Rib Shack. There's one in Laurel, MD and one in Alexandria, VA.

I like Pork Barrel's pulled pork. They have a NC style sauce to top it - but it doesn't have a lot of sauce on it. They do have a smoker but you won't see the chips (it's on the roof or something due to neighboorhood requests)

What about Urban BBQ?

They have pulled pork sandwiches at the cafeteria for the Museum of American History. I like them but I'm not from the south, so wouldn't know if they're up to SC standards.

The Carolina referred to by OP was, I'm guessing, North Carolina (vinegar based, not mustard based). I have yet to find pulled pork in the DC area that is on par with what I could get anywhere in Eastern NC. That said, Willard's out on Rte 50 was pretty good.

Carolina Brothers in Ashburn. They are literally exactly what you are looking for... Pork brought up from North Carolina and prepared Carolina style.

Willard's is great. I love their pulled pork, and their sides are excellent too. My husband, a Texan who is very picky about BBQ, gives Willard's a thumbs-up. Dixie Bones is good too.

Red Hot and Blue is a chain and not that great, IMO. We've had better pork from Shane's Rib Shack than from Famous Dave's, and we live close to the Alexandria location so it's convenient. I didn't really like Rocklands when we tried it. Haven't had a chance to try Old Glory yet, but heard decent things.

Honestly, the best pulled pork has come out of my crockpot I use a vinegar-based sauce.
